The oxide mineral class includes those minerals in which the oxide anion (O2) is bonded to one or more metal ions. The hydroxide bearing minerals are typically included in the oxide class. The minerals with complex anion groups such as the silicates, sulfates, carbonates and phosphates are classed separately.

This beauty comes from the mines in Peru, Huaron. Two generations needle quartz with purple-red lepidocrocite (or  hematite) enclosures . The quartz sits on a pyrite matrix – on the needles some small chalcopyrite crystals. As far I can see only two of the smaller needles at the back-side (close to the edge) are broken.   Measures approximately 110x70x50 mm and weighs approximately 0,43 kilogramme.
