Everybody knows pure gold, but gold also occurs in compounds of gold and/or silver with tellurium. The tellurides, calaverite and sylvanite are mined for their gold content.
Sylvanite is found and mined in Australia in the East Kalgoorlie district and a few other places.
Kalgoorlie is known for its rather clunky though rich specimens of essentially massive gold tellurides associated with coarse native gold.
