Lustrous black Wolframite crystal on quartz with some Calcite from Baia Sprie mine, Baia Sprie, Maramures, Romania.
The wolframite crystal measures approximately 25 x 17 x 6 mm; whole specimen measures 80 x 45 x 40 mm and weighs approximately 0,130 kilogramme.
Baia Sprie is situated at a distance of 9 km from Baia Mare. The town lies in one of the oldest most important mining regions in north-western Romania.
Nowadays all the mines in the region are closed. The mining of gold, silver, lead-zinc and copper ore deposits was the main economic activity for many centuries until 2006.
