Calcite from Iraí, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil; thin calcite needles on a thin quartz layer (partly Amethyst); the white semi-transparante calcite crystal in a beautiful contrast with the dark almost black matrix.
Found in 2005. Dimensions: 120x55x30mm. Weight 0,220 kilogramme.
With calcite so widely distributed it is no wonder that it can be so varied. The crystals of calcite can form literally a thousand different shapes by combining the basic forms.
There are more than 300 crystal forms identified in calcite and these forms can combine to produce the thousand different crystal variations. There are also specimen with phantoms, included crystals, many color varieties and pseudomorphs.
There simply is no end to the varieties of calcite.
