Old specimen - several clusters of glassy Barite crystals on matrix (pseudo morph); it weighs 1,5 kilogramme.and measures about 160 x 160 x 60 mm.
The Maramures region is one of the oldest  mining areas of Europe.
The mining exploration already began in the Dacian Kingdom formed by the King Burebista and were for long period of time concentrated on gold and silver.
Cavnic comes from the  Latin word “cave” that means cave, pi; this name is related to the basic activity of the place and that is mining.
This specimen came out of a mine in the Cavnic area were several mines are located.
