Mimetite

Inglaterra Mine, Santa Eulalia district, Mexico

Mimetite

Articlecode: VII.B.39160.001

Mining began in the Santa Eulalia Mining District in the early 1700s; discovered by the Spaniards about 1591 and first opened about 1703. Early production was primarily silver. The silver mines of Mexico have produced perhaps as much as a third of the silver that the world has ever used.
More recently, the mines have produced zinc, lead and ... beautiful minerals.  The mines and minerals, such as mimetite, from Santa Eulalia district are well known to collectors; this amazing specimen is from the Inglaterra Mine, Santa Eulalia district, Mexico.
